Speech and Language Service

Helping children find their voice, share their ideas, and connect confidently with the world around them.

What is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy—scientifically known as Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)—is much more than just teaching a child how to pronounce words correctly. It is a specialized, evidence-based health profession dedicated to evaluating, diagnosing, and treating challenges related to communication, language, and swallowing.

Core Areas of Focus

🧠 Receptive & Expressive Language: Helping children understand language, follow directions, build vocabulary, and express their thoughts, needs, and ideas more clearly.

🤝 Social Communication (Pragmatics): Supporting children in developing conversation skills, understanding social cues, taking turns, and building positive relationships with others.

🗣️ Speech Sound Production: Helping children improve speech clarity by addressing difficulties with pronunciation, speech sound patterns, and motor speech skills so they can be understood more easily.

🌊 Fluency & Voice Disorders: Supporting children who stutter to find their rhythm and ease of speech, as well as managing vocal quality, pitch, and volume.

Is Your Child Experiencing Any of the Following Challenges?

  • Has difficulty finding the right words or expressing their thoughts clearly.
  • Uses shorter or less developed sentences than other children their age.
  • Becomes frustrated when communicating, which may lead to tantrums, withdrawal, or challenging behaviours.
  • Is often not easily understood by family members, teachers, or others.
  • Has trouble following directions, understanding questions, or keeping up with classroom activities.
  • Finds it challenging to make friends, participate in conversations, or understand social cues.
  • Repeats sounds, syllables, or words, or appears to struggle with speaking smoothly.
