Speech and Language Service

At Ascent Speech Therapy, we are dedicated to fostering effective communication skills in children through a comprehensive range of speech and language services. Our team, led by Registered Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and supported by experienced Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) and Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDAs), collaborates to provide individualized care in a supportive environment.

Our Services

Initial Speech Assessment: Our initial assessment is designed to evaluate a child's communication abilities across various domains, including articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, and social communication skills. The process typically involves.

  • Pre-Assessment Questionnaire: Gathering background information regarding developmental milestones, medical and educational history, and specific concerns from parents or caregivers.

  • Interactive Evaluation: Engaging the child in age-appropriate activities, such as naming pictures, following instructions, and conversational play, to observe speech clarity, language comprehension, and expressive abilities.

  • Feedback and Recommendations: Discussing findings with parents or caregivers, providing an overview of strengths and areas needing support, and outlining potential therapy plans if necessary.

This thorough assessment enables us to develop a tailored therapy plan that aligns with each child's unique needs.

Personalized Therapy Plans

One-on-One Treatment Sessions: Our individualized treatment sessions are crafted to address specific communication challenges identified during the assessment. Each session is led by a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist/SLPAs/CDAs and may involve:

  • 45-Minute Sessions: Ideal for younger children or those with shorter attention spans, focusing on targeted speech and language goals through engaging activities.

  • 60-Minute Sessions: Suited for children who can sustain longer periods of focused activity, allowing for a more comprehensive approach to addressing multiple goals.

Both session lengths ensure ample time for direct intervention, caregiver education, and the development of strategies to support progress outside the therapy setting.

Speech Social Groups

Speech Social Group Sessions: Our group sessions offer children the opportunity to enhance their social communication skills in a structured, peer-interactive setting. Led by a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist/SLPAs/CDAs, these sessions focus on:

  • Peer Interaction: Facilitating turn-taking, conversation initiation, and collaborative play to build social competence.

  • Pragmatic Language Skills: Developing the use of language in social contexts, including understanding social cues and appropriate responses.

  • Group Dynamics: Providing a supportive environment where children can practice and refine their social communication abilities with peers.

These sessions are designed to complement individual therapy by offering real-world opportunities for children to apply and generalize their communication skills.

Our Professional Team:

  • Registered Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs): Licensed professionals who lead assessments and therapy sessions, ensuring evidence-based practices tailored to each child's needs.

  • Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) and Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDAs): Trained support staff who assist in implementing therapy plans under the supervision of SLPs, contributing to a collaborative and effective therapeutic environment.

At Ascent Speech Therapy, we are committed to providing a client-centered approach that extends beyond the clinic. We actively involve families in the therapeutic process, offering guidance and resources to implement strategies at home and in the community. This holistic support fosters consistent progress and empowers families to be active participants in their child's communication development.

Our mission is to create a warm, supportive environment where every child feels comfortable and empowered, working towards their fullest potential in communication.
