At our Summer Camp, we focus on community exploration and building real-world skills that promote independence. Our engaging activities are designed to support teens with autism as they learn essential life skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Activities Include:

1.  Supermarket Shopping

• Learn how to create shopping lists
• Practice budgeting and comparing prices
• Work on navigating aisles and finding items
• Understand product labels, including expiration dates

 2. Ordering Food at Restaurants

• Practice ordering from a menu
• Understand how to ask for special accommodations or preferences
• Learn the proper way to make payment and tip

3. Navigating Public Transportation

• Learn how to read bus and train schedules
• Practice riding public transit to specific destinations
• Identify and follow safety signs and rules while traveling

4. Identifying and Following Community Signs 

• Learn to read and understand street signs, directional signs, and public notices
• Practice recognizing important symbols (e.g., emergency exits, no smoking)
• Identify building entrances and exits for safety

5. Grocery Store Self-Checkout

• Learn how to use self-checkout systems
• Practice scanning items, using payment methods, and troubleshooting any issues

6. Navigating Public Parks & Recreation Areas

• Learn how to read maps of parks, trails, and public spaces
• Understand park etiquette and rules for staying safe in outdoor areas
• Practice meeting new people and socializing in a public setting

7. Money Management & Handling Transactions

• Learn the basics of budgeting and saving
• Practice paying for items using cash or a card at local stores or cafes

8. Exploring Public Libraries & Community Centers

• Learn how to check out books and materials
• Understand how to participate in library programs and workshops
• Practice respectful behavior in shared community spaces

July to August

9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

(Drop-off: 9:15 - 9:30 AM / Pick Up: 3:30 - 3:45 PM)

• Pre-screening is necessary.
• Child must be fully independent with toileting.
• Child should be able to follow instructions effectively.

$750 per week 

• Centre tours can be scheduled via email prior to the camp.
• To register, please email: info@ascentspeechtherapy.ca 
• Families will receive a confirmation email along with an intake form.
• Full payment will be collected by clinic staff once camp registration is complete.
